Methodology

A strategy-first method for putting AI into production.

The technology is one part of the outcome. The method starts from the business goal, turns it into an action plan, gives every task an owner and controls, then puts AI agents to work and measures what moved.

The chain

Six links. One operating chain.

It is only as good as the weakest link, which is why most AI work stalls at link two.

  1. 1

    A goal worth moving

Choose work because it serves a goal the company already has, and leave aside work that is only easy to automate.

  2. 2

The work, planned end to end

Turn the goal into an action plan across departments, in the right order. Optimising one frustrating step leaves the work around it unchanged.

  3. 3

    Who does what, who approves

Give every task to a person, a person supported by an AI agent, or an AI agent. Ownership and approval are written down.

  4. 4

    The AI agent, inside guardrails

Each AI agent runs on instructions compiled from the strategy: approved context, actions, controls, escalation and how to stop it.

  5. 5

    Monitoring you can see

Watch the work run, including exceptions and escalations. Watch the market too: signals come back as proposed changes, each with its reason.

  6. 6

    A metric that moved

Compare the agreed measure with where it started, and change the action plan when the market moves.

Four principles for choosing any AI-transformation approach.

The principles behind RELIABL.IT, and worth applying to any approach you consider.

  1. 1

Cover a whole workflow, and one that matters.

A local task improvement can be useful. The business outcome comes from the whole workflow.

  2. 2

    Measure against a real before.

A credible result needs a baseline. Establish the measure before implementation, then compare the same workflow after go-live.

  3. 3

    Start small and keep control.

The first scope should be narrow enough to learn quickly, with ownership, approvals and escalation explicit.

  4. 4

    Keep the plan current.

An action plan that was right in January can be wrong by October. When the market moves, the work the change affects should change with it.

Every task has an owner, and a person approves the real actions.

One workflow, eight steps, and who owns each one. Each workflow gets its own steps and approval points before an AI agent runs.

  1. 01 People
The business owner defines the priority and the scope.
  2. 02 AI agent
The agent gathers approved context and prepares the work.
  3. 03 AI agent
The agent drafts the outcome inside its guardrails.
  4. 04 People Approve
A human approves before the action takes effect.
  5. 05 AI agent
The agent executes the approved action and records it.
  6. 06 People Escalate
An exception or low confidence is escalated to a person.
  7. 07 People Stop
An out-of-scope condition stops or suspends the workflow.
  8. 08 People
The owner reviews monitoring and the agreed measure.

An example of lanes and control points. Each workflow gets its own steps, approval points and escalation rules before an AI agent runs.

Human in the loop means that a person reviews or approves the actions you specify. Anything uncertain or out of scope goes to a person.

Measure the work before an AI agent touches it.

Capture the number before the agent runs, because nobody can rebuild it afterwards. That is the difference between a result you can take to the board and a story you have to tell twice.

It also makes the second AI agent easier than the first. Once one piece of work has a measured before and after, the next one is chosen on business value, and less on enthusiasm.

Methodology questions.

What is Dynamic Strategy?

The method behind RELIABL.IT: the action plan adapts as the market moves, and people and AI agents work to it.

Darko Butina worked it out running companies, then wrote it down in three books: Dynamic Strategy, AI Powered Leader, and Management in AI Powered World.

Why start from the strategy if we only want one AI agent?

Because the work you choose decides whether the result is worth anything. A workflow nobody cares about can be improved perfectly and change nothing.

Starting from the strategy does not mean a strategy programme. RELIABL.IT reads what you already have, and the first action plan comes back within minutes.

Why change the whole workflow instead of automating one task?

Because a fast tool inside an unchanged workflow speeds up one fragment, and the bottleneck moves to the next handoff.

That is why tools and pilots produce activity and little in the numbers. The workflow is the unit that produces the business outcome.

Why measure before building?

Because nobody can rebuild the number afterwards, and an improvement nobody measured cannot be defended, funded or repeated.
